Resumen
Non-bacterial meningoencephalitis is a frequent inflammatory disease affecting central nervous system (CNS) function;often presenting with symptoms of the upper respiratory tract, headache, myalgia, fever, signs of meningeal sensitivity, nausea and convulsions. Objective:The objective of this work was to determine the usefulness of molecular diagnosis techniques of viral meningoencephalitis. Methodology:We studied 322 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples obtained from patients admitted to the medical center and assayed at the "Laboratorio de Biología Molecular del Centro Médico Valle San Diego", Carabobo State, Venezuela, during the period March 2010-December 2012, search through Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and with PCR enterovirus meningitis assay. Results:256 patients were found negative (79.5%) and 66 positive (20.5%) Conclusions:Human Enterovirus was the predominant virus (27%) diagnosed in the samples analyzed in this study.
