Abstract
In this work, it was studied the effect of a nitridation pretreatment with ammonia at temperatures between 500 and 900&C, on the activity of a commercial Ni-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst. The nitrided catalyst was characterized by XPS and BET surface area. The presence of Mo+2 and Mo0 in the catalyst nitrided at 700°C, as detected by XPS, could be related to the possible active species. Thiophene conversion was doubled when the commercial catalyst was nitrided followed by sulfiding-reduction «in situ» pretreatment.
