Abstract

In this study, we introduce the development of a generalized computational algorithm to facilitate comprehensive analysis and design of Bamboo and Timber Beams (BTB). The algorithm, embodied in software, enables the computation of support reactions, shear forces, bending moments, and cross-section properties. Positioned as a valuable contribution to initial beam assessment, it demonstrates congruence between computed outcomes and validation examples, substantiating accuracy. Engineered to account for the distinctive properties of bamboo and timber, the algorithm represents a pivotal step toward empowering architects, construction professionals, and engineering students in navigating the intricacies of sustainable structural design involving these natural resources. Moreover, the algorithm functions as a foundational platform with the potential for future integration of modules for the design of various structural components. These extensions encompass column design, connections, and the holistic development of bamboo and timber structures. In conclusion, this article introduces a software solution with substantial potential for advancing sustainable structural design encompassing BTB. Its accurate results, meticulous consideration of material attributes, and prospective extensibility underscore its relevance. This tool equips professionals and students with a valuable asset for optimized, sustainable, innovative structural solutions.
