Medicinal plants in Eastern Amazon Rainforest: Book project

Selva Libre, in collaboration with Ikiam, is working in remote and unique ecosystems in the Ecuadorian Amazon to document medicinal and useful plants from this region in the upper Amazon. The goal is to document medicinal and useful plant species in three distinct ecosystems and locations within the Ecuadorian Amazon. These locations are chosen for:

1. The unique and highly diverse species assemblages in each area.
2. The lack of scientific and ethnographic research on plants in these regions.
3. The deep working relationships and personal connections we have with indigenous communities in these areas.

Documenting the ethnobotany of these regions has the potential to discover new medicines and plant applications, thus improving the health and nutrition status of many populations.

Combine existing scientific knowledge with ethnobotanical knowledge to document the medicinal actions and applications of useful plants in the upper Amazon.

To create a book based on our findings that will document key biological and cultural information about endemic Amazonian plants.

Broadening the dissemination of this valuable knowledge through publications highlights the conservation priority of these species, which could ultimately lead to greater conservation action.
