Project Details
Summary
This project, developed by the Association for Production, Industrialization, and Commercialization of the Amazon (ASOPROINCAM), aims to implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for soursop (Annona muricata) crops in the Amazon region. The initiative seeks to reduce the impact of pests and diseases affecting this crop through sustainable and environmentally friendly strategies, leveraging the potential of plant-based products and beneficial microorganisms as biocontrol agents.
The Amazon region is characterized by high agrobiodiversity, which is utilized by local populations in various production systems, many of which use pesticides and/or fertilizers to enhance production. The use of these agrochemicals has led to adverse effects on human health and the environment. To address this issue, ecological, sustainable, and efficient strategies such as the use of bioproducts and plant extracts for pest and disease control, as well as the application of biofertilizers and/or biostimulants, can reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals in Amazonian crops.
In Ecuador, there is limited research in this area, and almost none regarding the use of plant-based products for pest and disease control. Therefore, the project aims to contribute to pest and disease control and increase food production. Expected results include theses with evaluations of biocontrol agents and plant-based products tested in vitro and/or in the field on identified pests and diseases. Additionally, the transfer of these results to ASOPROINCAM producers through workshops, a production manual, and videos on the preparation and application of bioproducts.

General Objective
Evaluate the potential of microorganisms and plant-based products for the control of pests and pathogens affecting soursop crops in the Amazon.
Specific Objectives
OE1. Evaluate *in vitro* the antagonism of isolated and identified microorganisms against pests and/or diseases affecting soursop crops.
OE2. Evaluate *in vitro* the potential of aqueous plant-based products to control pests and/or diseases in Amazonian crops.
OE3. Develop a technical guide based on the results obtained, to be disseminated among regional farmers to improve the sustainable management of pests and diseases.
