Summary
The Sub-Andean region of Ecuador represents the transition from the Andes to the Amazon Basin, making it an ideal space to investigate geological processes throughout history. Since the beginning of geological research in this region of Ecuador, different formations, structures, and fossil records have been identified, suggesting a complex evolution driven by tectonic, climatic, and biological processes. This project aims to answer questions from a multidisciplinary approach within the Geosciences.
The proposed research is necessary to contribute to the reconstruction of the past on a scale of millions of years, providing crucial information in areas such as natural resource exploration and risk management. This project seeks to reconstruct the geological evolution of the Sub-Andean region of Ecuador by analyzing stratigraphic, geochemical, paleontological, and climatic data. The goal is to identify correlations between events that have shaped and are responsible for the current landscape, which will impact the understanding of regional geology and serve as the foundation for future, more detailed investigations.

General Objective
Describe the geological evolution of the Sub-Andean region of Ecuador, integrating paleontological, climatic, and tectonic records.
Specific Objectives
1. Identify the anatomical characteristics and geological context of the fossil record of the Tena Formation.
2. Characterize the Cretaceous-Paleogene transition of the Sub-Andean region geochemically, tectonically, and climatically.
3. Map the volcanosedimentary deposits in the vicinity of the city of Tena and identify their stratigraphic context within the geological evolution of the Sub-Andean region.
