Summary
Tena, also known as San Juan de los Dos Ríos de Tena, is a city located in the north-central part of Ecuador’s Amazon region, which allows its connection with the Andean region, mainly with Quito. The Tena canton consists of several parishes: Tena (urban), and Ahuano, Puerto Misahuallí, Pano, Puerto Napo, Chontapunta, Talag, and Muyuna (rural).
Based on 2010 data, the projected population of Tena was 79,000 in the canton, with the highest growth occurring in the parish capital, Tena. By 2020, the city’s population was projected to reach 44,000 inhabitants. However, Tena has begun to experience a series of changes in the dynamics of its inhabitants for the following reasons: first, due to the government plan led by Rafael Correa, which aimed to decentralize public services from major cities; and second, the establishment of the Regional Amazonian University Ikiam, founded in December 2013. The introduction of these facilities has led to the relocation of professionals and their families to the city, creating new demands, and in the case of the university, the arrival of a new population—students.
Additionally, in 2016, the city’s linear park project was initiated on the grounds of the former airport, and this project has now been completed.

General Objective
Establish sustainable development guidelines for urban expansion driven by the presence of the Regional Amazonian University Ikiam, enabling the enhancement of the river as an identity element of local dynamics in the Muyuna parish of Tena, Ecuador.
Specific Objectives
