Summary

The conservation of biological diversity is an urgent issue worldwide, and only global collaboration will lead to long-term success. The Partnerships to Support Biodiversity in Developing Countries program aims to contribute to sustainable development in accordance with the 2030 Agenda and, therefore, ultimately to the conservation, restoration, and promotion of biodiversity in partner countries. This program enables German universities and their partner institutions to address biodiversity challenges. The focus is on university partnerships and continuing education. DiveCropS is a mobility project for researchers and students, aiming to create a network among institutions to train local stakeholders and researchers in diversifying cropping systems to maintain agrobiodiversity in vulnerable ecosystems across different continents. This training takes into account traditional knowledge, environmental analysis, statistical data monitoring, and geoinformatics methods. The network will be structured through workshops held in various countries with the participation of local researchers and producers.

General Objective

Create a network among participating institutions for the training of local actors and researchers in the diversification of cropping systems to maintain biodiversity in vulnerable ecosystems on different continents.

Specific Objectives

• Establish a network among participating institutions focused on biodiversity in agricultural and forestry systems.

• Design and deliver training courses for local stakeholders in the different participating countries, taking into account the biodiverse and traditional systems of each region.

• Conduct theoretical and practical workshops with the participation of researchers, students, and producers from different locations involved in the project.

• Strengthen inter-institutional cooperation among the universities and institutes participating in and collaborating with the project.
