Dr. María Victoria Reyes Vargas holds a PhD in Economic Sciences and is an Ecuadorian academic and researcher with extensive experience in higher education, university management, sustainable development, and tourism. Since January 2021, she has served as Rector of Universidad Regional Amazónica Ikiam, becoming the first democratically elected authority following the university's institutionalization process.
Her academic and professional career has focused on local development, sustainability, and tourism management. She has participated in numerous scientific research projects, authored publications in these fields, and co-founded the Ecuadorian Network for Tourism and Sustainability Research (REDITUS).
As Rector of Universidad Regional Amazónica Ikiam, she has promoted institutional development, scientific research, and national and international academic collaboration. Her work has contributed to strengthening Ikiam's role as a leading institution dedicated to biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and the advancement of knowledge for the Ecuadorian Amazon and beyond.
