Organization profile
The Applied Biomolecular Chemistry Research Group is an interdisciplinary team of researchers dedicated to the characterization of metabolic profiles, the isolation and structural elucidation of biomolecules from diverse organisms, and their application in drug bioprospecting, biodiversity valorization, and the preservation of Indigenous and traditional knowledge. The group also develops innovative technological and agricultural applications that contribute to the biotechnological utilization of Ecuador's biodiversity.
Research Areas
Chemical and Biological Characterization of Natural Products
This research area focuses on the chemical and biological characterization of organic compounds derived from natural products, particularly those found within the biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon. The objective is to discover novel natural extracts and bioactive compounds with potential applications as biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, biofuels, food additives, nutritional supplements, biomarkers, catalysts, and other innovative industrial and technological products.
Isolation and Identification of Biomolecules
This research area focuses on the extraction, isolation, purification, and identification of biomolecules derived from the primary and secondary metabolism of natural sources that comprise the biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Biotechnological Applications Inspired by Biomolecules
This research area explores the development of innovative biotechnological applications based on biomolecules isolated primarily from the Ecuadorian Amazon. It includes the study of biologically active compounds as well as biomolecules that serve as templates for the design and synthesis of biopharmaceuticals, biomaterials, and other high-value biotechnological products.
