The Ikiam Research Group on Biogeography and Spatial Ecology aims to generate scientific knowledge in biogeography and ecology to support biodiversity planning, conservation, and management across multiple spatial scales. The group focuses on priority conservation areas in Ecuador and the Neotropical region, with particular emphasis on threatened species and ecosystems.
The group addresses critical knowledge gaps in biogeography by designing and implementing cutting-edge research projects that integrate ecological and bioclimatic modeling, geographic information systems (GIS), molecular analyses, biodiversity databases, and the development of innovative technologies and software to advance biodiversity research and conservation.
